New Mexico Families as Faculty (NMFAF)

Families as Faculty in the Family Leadership Action Network

Do you have a story and experiences for future teachers and health care professionals to prepare them to work with children with special needs and their families?

When well informed and empowered families tell their story, they can make a positive difference by helping education and healthcare systems work to develop programs and policies for the children they serve. Families as Faculty offers opportunities for parents to lead the way in systems change as Host Families for visits by university students in the fields of education and health care.

All host families are required to attend a two-hour workshop: Host Family 101. Here they become familiar with the goals of the program, identify stories to share, and how to plan for a successful student visit. It is held twice a year in the community of each university site.

Please contact us if you are interested in becoming a Family Faculty volunteer through our Family Leadership Action Network.
