Read BiographyBiography:Kendra has been working with Parents Reaching Out since 1996. She was an active volunteer with PRO and a parent seeking assistance with educational issues for her two children until September 2007 when she started her employment. Since then, one of her children has successfully completed her public education experience and is attending college. Her other student is a child with a disability and is receiving services due to her diligent advocacy efforts. Kendra has several years of training and experience in behavior health, dispute resolution, inclusion, American Disabilities Act Amended, Section 504 title 2 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and Special Education law. Kendra has served on many task forces, provided staff development for school districts and parents since her employment at Parents Reaching Out. In essence, she “walks the walk and talks the talk”. Kendra’s greatest accomplishments are being the mother to two children and helping families around the state of New Mexico. She has learned much from her children and the families that she has served. She believes in the importance of accessing systems to help families. She believes that individuals should be valued for their abilities and not discounted for their disabilities. In her spare time, she enjoys friends, family, and traveling. |

Cindy LafonFamily Liaison |

Read BiographyBiography:Cindy joined Parents Reaching Out in 2012. As a former special education teacher, she recognizes the challenges families face when trying to ensure that their children are receiving the necessary services. Cindy received her bachelor’s degree from Portland State University and attended the Graduate School of Special Education. After beginning her career in Portland, she lived in Northern Arizona and worked extensively with the state and the Navajo Nation to provide services for children with disabilities and to advocate for domestic violence survivors. Cindy and her husband lived in Wyoming for a year before moving to Albuquerque, with the hope of finding more opportunities here to help those in need. She appreciates the opportunity at PRO to help children and families in New Mexico. In her free time, Cindy enjoys reading, hiking, and enjoying all that New Mexico has to offer. |

Rudy GomezFamily Liaison |

Read BiographyBiography:Rudy is a former Administrator of Bernalillo County Parks and Recreation and worked for the County for 31 plus years. Rudy has extensive experience in personnel, budgeting, grant writing and promoting and monitoring all divisions under his direction. Rudy has a Bachelors Degree in Recreation from the University of New Mexico and is currently obtaining his Masters in Therapy and Counseling at Webster University. He has also worked at Hogares, New Day Shelter, All Faiths Receiving Home, and the Edgewood-Moriarty School District. Rudy and his wife were Treatment Foster Parents for 11 years, as well. Rudy is the proud father of six children and seven grandchildren. As his mother-in-law resides with them, theirs is an example of a four generation family. Rudy says that his wife always finds the positive in any situation or in any person. His family has a great sense of humor and family gatherings resemble the old variety show Laugh-In. Rudy and his wife's motto is to try to give back by helping people. They feel truly blessed and he is a firm believer that he can help people help themselves in positive ways. Rudy believes in a motto that his old friend Jesse Castaneda used to say: JUNTOS PODEMOS! TOGETHER WE CAN! |
