Biography:
Martha has formally been with PRO as a Board Member since the spring of 2005; however, as a special education teacher in the Gallup McKinley County Public Schools and as a parent of a child with special needs, she has been acquainted with PRO since the early 1990s. Because of her personal experiences, she have always seen part of her role as an educator to be an advocate for family voice within the educational setting.
Martha is now a Visiting Instructor at Western New Mexico University – Gallup Graduate Studies Center in Gallup, NM, teaching in the Special Education Teacher Education Program and working with PRO to include the Families as Faculty Project in our coursework. Her husband, Marcelino, is an attorney with the Department of Justice for the Navajo Nation. They have two daughters, one married and living in Nashville, TN and one completing college in Las Cruces.
Martha enjoys reading (particularly mysteries, historical fiction and Harry Potter), sports of all kinds, traveling, playing dominoes, and spending time with family and friends. Being a part of the PRO family through the Board has been fulfilling for her, both personally and professionally, providing insights into the field work of the organization, building relationships with a group of dedicated and passionate people, and engaging in opportunities to dialogue around philosophies and issues in today’s society.
